Aldabra Island is a Seychelles atoll in the western Indian Ocean. It is made up of 46 islands covering an area of 155 km².
Its isolation and the absence of occupation and perennial human activities allowed the animal and vegetable species to develop a certain endemism such as the rail of Cuvier, the last species of birds which cannot fly from the islands of the Western Indian Ocean .
Due to difficult access and isolation, Aldabra has been preserved from human influence and has become a refuge for some 100,000 giant tortoises, the world’s largest population of this reptile.
