Granville Woods was born into an African-American family in 1856. Woods’ most important invention was the multiplex telegraph. It allowed men to communicate by voice on telegraph wires, ultimately helping to speed up important communications and eventually preventing errors such as train accidents.
This African-American inventor holds more than 50 patents! An engineer, he contributed in particular to the improvement of the railway and communication between stations through the « Telegraphony ». He is also the inventor of the steam boiler furnace, the electric railway, the automatic air brake, the telephone transmitter, the electromechanical brake, the railway telegraph, the induction telegraph system, the electric railway air-driving system, the construction of an electric railway tunnel, the electrifying battery but also the satellite dish!
