Sarah Boone was an American inventor born 1832.
For centuries before, people used any flat surface available to press their clothes. On April 26, 1892, Sarah obtained patent rights from the United States for her improvements to the ironing board. Boone’s ironing board has been designed to improve the quality of ironing sleeves and the body of women’s clothing. The board was very narrow, curved and made of wood. The shape and structure allowed it to adapt to a sleeve and it was reversible, so you could iron both sides of the sleeve. This improvement made life easier for the households.
